Dunamis:

Dunamis (Power): (A brief study) Part One of Two:
Dunamis (doo'na-mis): Greek word for power’, from which the word ‘dynamite’ originated.

Dunamis: What Is It? Dunamis is the Greek word for 'power'.

Dunamis is the choice of all Greek words with which to describe athletic or olympic competition.

Dunamis refers to the miraculous life changing power of God.

Dunamis, is the power that changes the ordinary to the extraordinary.

Dunamis is the power that changes simple fishermen into ‘fishers of men.’, and world changers, through the gospel of Christ for salvation to all lost souls of men.

Dunamis is the power of the resurrection!

Dunamis is the power which came by the baptism (saturation) of about a hundred twenty believers, which included the eleven apostles, with the Holy Ghost (the Spirit of truth), at Pentecost!

(Acts 2:4; Joel 2:28-29

And that was the birth of the Church, of all things, which the apostles were commanded by Christ: 'teaching them (believers of all nations, both Jews and Gentiles) to observe (receive, and keep, and do, and teach) all things whatsoever I have commanded you:’: (Matthew 28:20: Ref: Acts 1:4-5, 8; John 1:32-34; Acts 10:43-48)

Dunamis is the Power which every Believer must receive, for it is the power of understanding (perception, comprehension of) the truth that is the hidden wisdom anf knowledge of God in the 'word of truth', which cannot be known by the natural mind of the carnal wisdom of man!

(I Corinthians 2:14)

Two thousand years ago, Jesus told his disciples, wait in Jerusalem until you are endued with power (dunamis) from on high (from the ministry of Jesus after He ascended back to the Father, where He was before (John 17:5), which ministry is to baptize them with the Holy Ghost:

John 1:33; Joel 2:28-29.

And on the day of Pentecost, Jesus poured out the promise of the Father (Holy Spirit), on all the believers gathered in Jerusalem, which were about a hundred twenty, and included the eleven apostles. (Acts 1:4-8; Acts 2:4; Acts 10:43-48; Acts 19:1-7; Acts 8:12-18; Joel 2:28-29;

Hosea 6:1-3: and me, December 12, 1965, and hundreds of millions during the approximately two thousand years of the Church on earth, with the ‘former‘ rain, or, outpouring of God‘s Spirit, the Holy Ghost), which fell upon the hundred twenty (according to Joel 2:28-29), which also included the eleven remaining apostles (without Judas, a thief, a devil, and a merciless persecutor of the poor):
Psalm 109:6-19; John 6:70.

Israel (the Jews, God’s ‘chosen’ people, the ‘Circumcision’) was the ‘shadow’ of the Church. God dealt with the nation of Israel, using the same principles which He implements with the believers of the Church that Jesus built.

From the time of Adam’s egress from the garden of Eden, until Moses came to Mount Sinai, there was no ‘law of Moses’, and no law (commandment) at all (except observance of the Sabbath day of the Lord: Exodus 16:23).

Then, on or about June 1, BC 1462, when, at Mount Sinai (sometimes referred to as ‘Horeb’, where also Christ was, Which was the Rock of Horeb, out of which Rock freely flowed water, when Moses smote the Rock with his staff one time, that the people might drink), Moses was called by God to meet with Him in the top of the mount, with Aaron, the high priest, brother of Moses.
(Ref: Exodus 20:1-17, I Corinthians 10:4)

Dunamis, the power, and the God from Whom all power originates:

This page is a partial list of the verses that show the Dunamis Power of God at work in the Bible.

Luke 9:1: Jesus gave the twelve disciples power:
  1) "Then He called His twelve disciples together, and gave them power (dunamis) and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases."

Luke10:19: In the name of Jesus we have power over the enemy:
19) "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power (dunamis) of the enemy."

Luke 24:49: Jesus sends the promise of the Father upon us:
 49) "Behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you: but tarry you in the city of Jerusalem, until you be endued with power (dunamis) from on high."

Acts 1:8: Jesus said to the whole Church-to-be, the about a hundred twenty, including the apostles:

 8) "But ye shall receive power (dunamis), after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."

Acts 6:8: Believers should be prepared to minister, and be full of faith and power:
  8) "And Stephen, full of faith and power (dunamis), did great wonders and miracles among the people."

God anointed Jesus with power to do good and Jesus anointed us with power to do good:

(Acts 10:38; John 20:21-22)

Acts 10:38:
38) "How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power (dunamis): Who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him."

John 20:21-22:
21
) "Then said Jesus to them again, ‘Peace be unto you: as My Father hath sent Me, even so send I you’.

22) "And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and saith unto them, ‘Receive you the Holy Ghost’.

This was one of Jesus’ commandments to the apostles, which they, in turn, were to teach us, with

‘teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:’ (p/o Matthew 28:20).

The following are excerpts of scripture denoting the fact that every believer must receive (be baptized with) the Holy Ghost: it is the commandment of Jesus Christ, and prepared by God in prophecy: John 7:37-39;

‘for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.’ (The holy day of the Jewish Pentecost, when Jesus was glorified with the Father, had not yet come.) Until that time, the law of Moses was still in effect, but when the apostles among the about a hundred twenty other believers were baptized with the Holy Ghost, that was the end of the law, and the beginning of the New Covenant (New Testament in Christ’s blood, and not of animal sacrifices, which could never take away sins: Hebrews 10:1-12).

Part Two will further elaborate of the 'dunamis', the power of God in the lives of true believers, and will also detail concisely how the Church is to come together as 'the body of Christ, and members in particular' (I Corinthians 12:29; I Corinthians 1:10), thus conforming to the 'pattern' of God, and keeping the commandments of Jesus, as prophecy has stated in Hosea 6:1-3 (circa BC724).

'Stay tuned'.

God really loves each and every soul in the world. How many will love Him back?

Acts 19:2-7: Paul took the next step, that they receive the Holy Ghost, as believers in Christ must:
 2) "And he said unto them, 'Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?' And the said unto him, 'We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.'
 3) "And he said unto them, 'Unto what then were ye baptized?' And they said, 'Unto John's baptism.'
 4) "Then said Paul (the same thing Jesus told the apostles in Acts 1:4-5). 'John verily baptized with (water) the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on Him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.'
 5) "When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
 6) "And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghodt came (was poured out) upon them; and they spake with tongues (as the Spirit gave them the utterance), and prophesied (glorified God, and magnified Him).
 7) "And all the men were about twelve."

Non-believer, you can receive Christ as your Savior right now; just give Him your heart, and He will give you remission of your past sins, and everlasting life: John 3:16.

Believer, you can receive the Holy Ghost right now. God is right there, and Jesus is ready to pour out the Spirit of God, and baptize you with the Holy Ghost: John 1:33; Acts 1:8; Acts 10:43-48.
(Ref: Joel 2:28-29)

And you will speak with tongues, as the Spirit gives you the utterance.
