If
By Allan Thomasson
If you were me, and I were you,
What then do you suppose we’d do?
Would you continue to be true,
To me, yourself, and I, to you?
Or would you (as myself) do right,
To worship God both day and night;
And do His will? I would, for you,
If you were me, and I, you, too.
But that could never, ever be,
I can’t be you; you can’t be me.
Do you suppose then, in your life,
You might take someone’s good advice,
To 'Take a look? Eternity
Is not that far from you or me.
And it will last for evermore.'
Now, that’s just what I’m living for!
'When Jesus came, He was crucified;
It wasn’t only He that died;
But each of us, for we are flesh;
But now, we all may start afresh.
For, when Christ died, our flesh 'died', too. (II Corinthians 5:14)
He’ll resurrect both me and you,
Who will believe in God’s own Son
Who was crucified for every one. (Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12)
He gave me life: ‘twill never end,
For Jesus saved my soul, my friend.
He’ll do the same for each and all;
And to us each, the gospel calls,
That we may to that call submit
Ourselves to Him, with no regret.
And God shall make for us a place, (John 14:1)
For He will save us by His grace, (Ephesians 2:8-10)
If we believe in Christ, God’s Son, (John 3:16-18a)
And we’ll be saved. For every one
Has sinned, is lost, and fate awaits (Romans 5:12; 3:23)
For those fail, or hesitate, (John 3:18b)..
To believe in Jesus while they live,
For God has promised: life He’ll give;
And everlasting life is yours,
For ever, then, we are assured,
As you believe, you shall receive
New life; for God will then retrieve
Your soul, to be in His family:
And live with Him in eternity.
